📝 Description
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has captured detailed imagery of the Helix Nebula, an object sometimes referred to as the "Eye of Sauron." This structure is a planetary nebula formed by the outer layers of gas ejected by a dying central star, specifically a White Dwarf. Data from the JWST reveals thousands of dense structures within the debris, which are identified as cometary knots.
These observable features are indicative of the final stages in the life cycle of a star like our Sun, projecting a possible future state for our solar system in approximately five billion years. While visually dramatic, the process represents stellar evolution, where the material expelled from the dying star can contribute to the formation of new cosmic structures.
