The Gibson Gear Guide visited the Gibson Custom Shop to document the updated hardware aging process utilized in the Gibson Custom Murphy Lab series. The segment features Sean Farrell, a member of the Gibson Custom Shop team responsible for the hand-aging of components on Murphy Lab guitars. A significant update for the Murphy Lab line is the expansion of the complete aging package to include hardware aging across all models, a feature previously reserved for limited runs.
This reimagined approach involves hand-aging every component, addressing aspects such as the yellowing of tuner buttons and subtle warping of pickguards, alongside the aging of all metal parts. This widespread implementation of comprehensive hardware aging marks a first for Gibson Custom guitars.
