A 70-year-old man named Hajdar Lila from Kruja, Albania, intentionally declared his own death in an attempt to combat loneliness and prompt visits from his relatives. After returning to his homeland from years as an emigrant, Lila reportedly faced isolation. To address this, upon reaching his 70th birthday, he organized a mock funeral ceremony, displaying his supposed death notice on a wall.
Lila recounted that during his time working in Canada where he was financially stable, he maintained contact with friends and relatives through gifts and monetary support. However, upon his return to Albania, he found the reality of relationships to be disappointing. The man stated that he had, in fact, prepared his own grave for the past 22 years in anticipation of such a ceremony.
