📝 Description
The use of the snooze button is presented as counterproductive to achieving optimal wakefulness and is linked to increased daytime fatigue. When an alarm is set and subsequently snoozed, the brain initiates the beginning of a new sleep cycle. These sleep cycles typically span between 75 to 90 minutes in duration. Interrupting this process prematurely, such as by waking up only nine minutes after the initial alarm, pulls the individual out of deeper stages of sleep.
This abrupt interruption leads to a state known as sleep inertia, characterized by feelings of grogginess and exhaustion. The duration required for cognitive function to fully recover from sleep inertia can extend for several hours. Experts suggest that the most beneficial action for maintaining alertness is to wake up immediately upon the initial sounding of the alarm rather than utilizing the snooze function.
